Title: The Fun Of Watching Fireworks
Release Date/Label: 20.08.1996/Emperor Jones
Description: The American Analog Set's debut album is a hushed, evocative soundscape, an entrancing excursion into the realm of lo-fi dream-pop. Frontman Andrew Kenny's songs - typified by the aptly-titled opening cut "Diana Slowburner II" - are hypnotic and deceptively simple, constructed of little more than ringing guitars and gently insistent rhythms, with the steady, warm hum of a Farfisa coloring the music with a cosmic serenity; vocals creep in and out of the mix, rarely rising above a whisper... It is an experience in complete sonic immersion.Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

Title: From Our Living Room To Yours
Release Date/Label: 01.07.1997/Emperor Jones
Description: On some Indian summer days, there's a twilight just before dusk when everything just seems perfect and soothing. It's a moment we've all had that's forever fleeting, a temporary transcendence that comes in soft shades of red and orange. If ever there was a way to bottle that feeling for repeat visits, it's the music of American Analog Set. Lush, quiet melodies that spread out slowly and almost endlessly, with vocals dreamily set adrift almost playing harmony to the music's pull. Sparse but steady guitar work plays above a Farfisa organ.Jason Fuller, Metrotimes

Title: The Golden Band
Release Date/Label: 06.07.1999/Emperor Jones
Description: I was lifting into the storm now, with bolts of lightning silently crashing around me. Somehow, I felt safe, even safer than I felt on the ground. The music, it seemed, was protecting me. I soared even higher, into the clouds, with the pink and yellow and orange flashes more muted, but more frequent. I could feel the movement of the car through the clouds - I could almost feel the clouds, illuminated softly and growing brighter, flying through a soft, cool white light, floating, hovering in a milky ether...Nick Mirov, Pitchfork Media

Title: Know By Heart
Release Date/Label: 04.09.2001/Tiger Style
Description: Know by Heart offers a great many more standout moments than any other American Analog Set album, but winds up feeling a bit less consistent as a result. That's a small price to pay, though, when you get songs like "Million Young," with its brisk rhythm and buzzy organ, or "Aaron & Maria," which aims to add another "youngsters go off to the Big City" chapter to the Great American Songbook. Warm, clean guitars surreptitiously sink monster hooks into your cerebellum as laid-back drums gently urge the song to its conclusion.Joe Tangari, Pitchfork Media

Title: Updates

The EP is not recommended for those looking to discover American Analog Set for the first time, but for anyone who already knows and enjoys the band, what we have here is a refreshing new take on a familiar sound. Title: Promise Of Love
Release Date/Label: 17.07.2003/Tiger Style
Description: Promise of Love is a break-up record, hence its toning down of the more confectionary pop found on its 2001 predecessor Know by Heart. The returned love letter on the cover is initially difficult to make out, but once discerned, the theme of betrayed amore is impossible to ignore. And yet it's still a pop offering, with perhaps a little salt to offset the sugar.David Antrobus, PopMatters
Tracklisting/Lyrics:
1. Continuous Hit Music [Guitar Tabs]
2. Hard to Find
3. Come Home Baby Julie, Come Home
4. You Own Me
5. Promise of Love
6. The Hatist
7. Fool Around [Guitar Tabs]
8. Modern Drummer

Title: HOME: Volume 5 (B. Gibbard & Andrew Kenny)
Release Date/Label: 30.03.2004/Post-Parlo
Description: Both Andrew Kenny (of American Analog Set) and Benjamin Gibbard (from Deathcab for Cutie) strip away their bandmates for some quiet solo plucking and get in touch with their inner singer songwriters. ...Andrew Kenny and Benjamin Gibbard both come from bands that are experts in their respective forms of ambience. Instead of wincing through boneless political tirades or enduring the softcore tyranny of a batch of break-up songs, Home succeeds in importing the atmospheres of their homebases without picking any of the pitfall scabs of a genre covered in them.Terry Sawyer, PopMatters
Tracklisting/Lyrics:
1. You Remind Me of Home (Gibbard)
2. Carolina (Gibbard)
3. Farmer Chords (Gibbard)
4. Choir Vandals (Gibbard)
5. Hometown Fantasy (Kenny)
6. Secrets of the Heart (Kenny)
7. Church Mouse in the Church House (Kenny)
8. Line of Best Fit (Kenny)

Title: Songs of Hurt and Healing (American Analog Set/White Magic)
Release Date/Label: 2004/Ouch
Description: American Analog Set is first up with three songs and only one of the three I recognize. The track "The Postman" was from a previous release but it has been reworked here. The first AAS track is called "Immaculate Heart" and alone is worth tracking down this EP in a magazine. It is beautiful. "The Postman" is a reworking from a previous album but is presented here very gracefully. It reminds me of why I like American Analog Set. "Play Hurt" is the weakest of the three tracks but is still a nice track. Dennis Scanland, MusicEmissions

2. The Postman (American Analog Set)
3. Play Hurt (American Analog Set)
